MONTH OF CREATIVITY 2026
01. May 2026

Creativity isn’t a God-given talent. It’s a muscle that can be trained—and in May, we’ll give you the space to strengthen it to the fullest.
České Budějovice will transform into a laboratory of creative experiences and discovery. We’re exploring the intersections between education and living culture, and we’re bringing you a unique combination of two events. The immersive Jižní Svéráz festival opens up streets, parks, and public spaces to captivating stories that you and your children can step right into. The Month of Creativity adds workshops and creative zones focused on the world of the youngest—children from birth to six years old—and the adults who accompany them.
For families with children: Let your children's imagination take you into the world of art
We’ve put together a program that adapts to your children’s pace and opens up a world of play and art through their own experiences.
Family Saturday | May 23 | Ages 10 months to 3 years
We’ll continue the festival atmosphere with Family Saturday as part of Month of Creativity. You can look forward to an original playroom created by the KUK Festival (a multi-genre Czech festival for the youngest children), a theater performance for toddlers, and music workshops incorporating elements of music therapy.
For all professionals who work with children ages 0 to 6
We bring you inspiration and fresh ideas for your work—whether you work at a preschool, lead an after-school club, or create your own creative programs.
Creative Inspiration Workshops with Creativity Month | May 13–29
We’ve prepared a series of workshops for you that function as a living creative laboratory. You’ll take away concrete know-how: how to use a story in a book to create space for children’s imagination, how to engage both body and materials, and how to meaningfully incorporate elements of children’s yoga, music therapy, creative play methods, and circus pedagogy into your sessions with children. Get tried-and-true tips and gather ideas on how to sensitively respond to the needs of both children and the adults present.
For the general public: A city that comes alive with culture
Things are really getting underway in České Budějovice right now. Even if you’re not specifically looking for family-friendly activities or involved in education, May opens the door to extraordinary experiences. As part of the South Specific festival, you can look forward to cutting-edge site-specific projects and provocative productions by independent artists that are bursting with energy. Come and immerse yourself in the action, take part in our events, or simply follow upcoming events and news on the European Capital of Culture 2028 website. You are welcome.
