LOCATION
Hotel Fatigue is a site-specific project by Divadlo Continuo, inspired by the stories of people who lived, worked, or temporarily stayed at the Blanice accommodation complex in Týn nad Vltavou.
The performance is being created in the now-abandoned area of the Blanice hostel, built in the 1980s for construction workers of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant.
Over time, Blanice ceased to serve its original purpose and began to be used in various ways: in 2002, it served as an evacuation center during the floods; in 2022, it provided temporary refuge for Ukrainian women and children fleeing the war. Occasionally, it also functioned as a hotel for tourists or sports groups. Today, out of the original complex of four buildings, only a single prefabricated apartment building remains standing, along with the former reception and restaurant building.
In Divadlo Continuo's site-specific project, this space is transformed into Hotel Fatigue – a place of transience, encounters, memories, and traces of life destinies that crossed paths here.
STORIES
Hotel Fatigue weaves together diverse stories spanning from the 1980s to the present day.
The stories taking place in Hotel Fatigue are based on the specific destinies of people connected to the Blanice hostel, Týn nad Vltavou, and its surroundings. They reflect the stories of construction workers and power plant employees, people displaced by the construction of Temelín, Ukrainian refugees, and many others for whom Blanice became a temporary home.
The project touches upon the themes of "stories from the margins," whether it is the experience of displacement, searching for a home, loneliness, or social exclusion. Among other things, the creators of the performance are interested in the theme of transience and temporariness, the relationship of a person to the place where they live or only temporarily stay, as well as how major historical events leave their mark on everyday human lives.
Life in Týn nad Vltavou and its surroundings was fundamentally transformed by two historical eras. The first came in the 1960s with the arrival of military units during the Cold War. The second was the construction of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant in the 1980s and 1990s, which brought thousands of workers to the region while also leading to the disappearance of several surrounding villages. These events remain present in local stories to this day. Hotel Fatigue weaves together diverse human stories from the 1980s to the present, creating a portrait of a place passed through by many – often for just a brief moment in their lives.

Divadlo Continuo has more than thirty years of experience creating site-specific projects. Each project is preceded by research into the given location and its history, as well as collaboration with local communities. As part of the ČB - ECoC 2028 project, Divadlo Continuo continues its exploration of specific locations in South Bohemia this year, viewing theater not only as an artistic activity but also as a way of understanding and a means for artists, local communities, and audiences to come together.
Much like guests arriving at a hotel, the audience will be welcomed and guided into the space of the Blanice accommodation complex. During the performance, the audience, alongside the performers, will briefly reside in Hotel Fatigue, witnessing dozens of stories unfolding in their immediate proximity without a strict barrier between the stage and the auditorium.
Just as people from various backgrounds crossed paths throughout the history of the Blanice hostel, the cast of Hotel Fatigue is formed by a highly diverse group. Alongside performers from different countries with varied experiences, the project involves representatives of local communities and individuals with social or health disadvantages. In this way, Hotel Fatigue connects different worldviews and the life stories of people who might otherwise never have met.
