BROT (2020) film screening: Evening School at Nová

We invite you to a screening of the Austrian film BROT (Bread) on Tuesday, July 28, starting at 18:00 at the Artists in Residency House Nová (Nová 1870, 370 01 České Budějovice 3).

The film is part of the accompanying activities for the educational series “Start the Sourdough, Kindle the Fire,” in which artist Lenka Kubelová encourages us to reflect on our closest environments through baking and working with dough.

ABOUT THE FILM

Once merely a basic foodstuff, bread has now become a brand-name product with ever more varieties and suppliers. But do we know what we are actually eating every day? The film Bread takes us on an enlightening journey into the world of bread and its production today. We meet traditional artisan bakers and cereal farmers who can vouch for quality and sustainable ingredients. Director Harald Friedl also shows us the baking factories of transnational food corporations, who go to great technological lengths on their mission to recreate authentic taste. Industrially produced bread is fast becoming an artificial product. How can the craft of baking survive? And what will the bread of the future be like?

The film will be screened in German with English subtitles.
Runtime: 94 minutes, MORE ABOUT THE FILM
