FINDING STORYLAND

LEAD ORGANIZATION: Divadlo Continuo

Finding Storyland explores how the identity and memory of South Bohemia can be rediscovered through theatre and stories of people and places.

Finding Storyland is a long-term artistic project by Continuo Theatre, that connects theatre, landscape and the memory of places and people, transforming them into live, site-specific and immersive performances.

The project collects, explores, and translates into theatrical form stories of South Bohemia – famous and forgotten, personal and collective, real and potential. Together, they create the memory of the region and new ways of telling it.

Under the leadership of Continuo Theatre, the project brings together Czech and international artists, local communities and experts from various fields. The resulting productions often take place in unexpected or abandoned places, that are brought back to life thanks to the theatre.

The Finding Storyland project fulfills its basic idea – to connect regional cultural identity with the European context through shared stories, historical memory and contemporary social issues. This long-term site-specific project by Continuo Theatre maps the memory of South Bohemia in its entirety – from official history to personal and neglected narratives – and transforms it into a form of live art that actively engages local communities and international partners.

In this way, the project promotes participation, cross-border cooperation, and cultural development throughout the region. It uses specific South Bohemian landscapes and forgotten places as stages for performances, thereby promoting the decentralization of culture and connecting artistic research with the memory of place. At the same time, Finding Storyland creates a lasting cultural legacy – a collection of stories and experiences that extend beyond 2028 and serve as inspiration for further artistic and educational projects in the region and beyond.

Continuo Theatre

Continuo Theatre is an international independent theatre group led by Pavel Štourač, its director and artistic coordinator. Since 1995, Continuo Theatre has been based and working in South Bohemia, in the village of Malovice, on the premises of a former farmstead called The Plum Yard, where the members of the ensemble live and work permanently.

Continuo Theatre is a group that professes theatre as a process, a need, a way of being. Although it is often described as physical or visual theatre, it is virtually impossible to classify its work by genre. In its work, it combines physical acting with puppet theatre practices, live music, and distinctive visual stylization.

The acting work of Continuo Theatre is characterized by a search for authentic and personal expression. All this creates the unmistakable poetics of each production.

Four years, four productions, dozens of collaborations

Between 2025 and 2028, the project will produce four original site-specific and immersive theater productions, which will take place in unusual, often inaccessible or forgotten locations in South Bohemia.

The site-specific projects will be created under the guidance of the creative team of Continuo Theatre in collaboration with dozens of experienced and emerging theater artists, theater school students, musicians and visual artists. A number of Czech and international partner institutions are also involved in the project.
