Maker Faire + REUSE festival CB 2025

This autumn, České Budějovice will host a unique gathering – for the very first time, the Maker Faire creativity festival will join forces with the REUSE Festival, organized by Kabinet CB. The event is part of the program of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028.

Together, we’ll create a space where innovation meets sustainability and creativity connects with community.

What will you experience?

  • Creative workshops and inspiring Maker Faire projects showing how ideas can change the world.
  • Swaps – exchange markets where things get a second life.
  • Repair Café – repairing together and saving objects from being thrown away.
  •  Free play zones – fun with items we no longer use in everyday life.

Why together?

Both festivals are based on the belief that we can change the world around us through small steps – by creating, sharing, and acting responsibly. By joining forces, they create a space that opens dialogue between generations, connects local communities, and strengthens the values at the heart of the European Capital of Culture 2028 project.

What’s waiting for you – with unwanted items and materials, you can:

CREATE:

  • Julius Reichel – artist and recycler presents original artworks made from discarded materials from cultural institutions.
  • Jan Vincenec – launch of the Art Re Use project in České Budějovice.
  • Creative workshops – try working with old boxes, banners, coffee sacks, dishes, or polystyrene.
  • Photo “collection yard” – a photo corner with unusual backdrops made from discarded items.
  • Children’s play zone – free play with natural materials and toys made from leftovers. Creative fun for both kids and adults.

REPAIR, SHARE, EXCHANGE:

  • Repair Café – bring broken items and we’ll fix them together.
  • TEENS lending library – discover a new community equipment lending service for young people.
  • Swap & Bazaar – give things a second chance and take home treasures someone else no longer needs.

HELP:

  • Miracle Help – learn how unused computers and IT equipment can be put to good use.
  • Reuse JIH.cz – pilot network of reuse points in the South Bohemian Region.
  • Social cooperative VLNA – secondary processing of electronics and employment for disadvantaged people.
  • Furniture Bank of South Bohemia – functional furniture and household items for people in need.

LEARN: 

  • Circular House CB – exhibition mapping the project’s journey so far.
  • Sewing workshops with Helena Dohnalová – learn to repair or sew your own piece.
  • Renovation and upholstery with Michal Kalista – demonstrations of working with old furniture.
  • Recycling line and waste scale – a behind-the-scenes look at sorting and recycling processes.
