The South Bohemian Theater Festival, which will transform South Bohemia into a stage.
Each performance takes place in a setting that is not merely a backdrop, but an integral part of the experience. Streets, cities, industrial halls, and unexpected nooks and crannies are transformed into stages, giving the productions a new dimension. Following a successful inaugural year in 2024, which attracted more than twenty thousand spectators, Jižní Svéráz enters its first official season in 2026—and invites you to be a part of it.
This is the largest project within the framework of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028; you can look forward to more than forty productions performed by thirty-one artistic ensembles. We will officially open the festival on May 1–3 with the opening weekend of Festival Bites, which will offer a diverse sampling of the program and accompanying events.
Tickets for all performances, including the opening weekend, are now on sale.

Žižkárna Festival Zone
When you want more than just a program
Do you have the spirit of youth flowing through your veins, regardless of your age, and would you like to get your blood pumping with some quality culture? Or, on the contrary, do you need to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while and find your own “festival haven”? Head to Žižkárna in České Budějovice during the Opening Weekend.
Stromovka Festival Zone - Bagr
Immerse yourself in a world ruled by imagination
During the Opening Weekend, Stromovka Park will transform into an oasis of family-friendly activities. The A3D EDU Center will take you beneath the magical water’s surface and open up a world of sea tales. The South Bohemian Research Library will host creative workshops for children of various ages, and the Hemžení installation will offer a space for discovery and playful exploration of balance and movement. There will also be plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs with a game of disc golf.
Stejskalka Festival Zone
The Artery of South Specific
The festival zone on Dr. Stejskala Street will transform into the vibrant heart of Jižní Svéráz for the weekend. Music, theater, and acrobatics will all come together here. The street will come alive with the energy of the South Bohemian Theater Ballet School and the infectious joy of movement, which you can also experience during the Run OpeRun opera flash mob. Plus, dinosaurs from The Lost World will be roaming around the theater. Stejskalka is a place where art happens right here and now—right among you.
