České Budějovice and Lower Austria Join Forces for 2028!

České Budějovice have taken another step toward fulfilling the ambitions of the European Capital of Culture 2028 project. At the end of March, a working meeting was held at the city hall with representatives of Lower Austria, aimed at linking the preparations of two major cultural events – ECoC České Budějovice 2028 and the Lower Austrian State Exhibition 2028.
The working group meeting at České Budějovice City Hall on March 25, 2026, was attended by representatives of the South Bohemian Region, the statutory city of České Budějovice, the České Budějovice 2028 ECoC organization, and the government of Lower Austria, as well as representatives of South Bohemian and Lower Austrian institutions active in culture, regional development, tourism, higher education, and cross-border cooperation.
The meeting confirmed the strong willingness of both regions to cooperate and resulted in a concrete outcome in the form of the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with the organizing body of the Lower Austrian State Exhibition. The document establishes a framework for long-term partnership in culture and tourism and aims to extend beyond 2028.
