What is CityDescribing?
CityDescribing is a project aiming at making České Budějovice more accessible to inhabitants and guests with visual impairments.
The tool is an audio description.
The actors are inhabitants of the city.
The why behind it is very simple: imagine walking around the city your whole life, passing by sculptures, monuments, but not knowing that they are there and what they look like. Going to the main square, knowing its shape but not knowing the architecture, etc. This project was created to fix it. And also, to make the city accessible to the visitors.
It is based on the concept of social describing: from one inhabitant to the other.

Want to become CityDescriber?
If you are excited that Budweis is the European Capital of Culture 2028 and would like to be part of it, would like to contribute, and you would like to be useful to other people, but you do not have much time or you are not particularly interested in volunteering at the cultural events this type of volunteering might be for you.
It is for everyone and anyone who wants to do a bit of good. No matter age, place of living, previous experience or job description.
You can become a CityDescriber on your own. You can do it with a friend, a grandchild, or with your whole family. You can engage your classmates, co-workers or your dog. Whatever and however you feel most comfortable.
It is not going to take up much of your time. You can also do it whenever you want: on your way from work, during a weekend walk with the family, or a morning walk with a dog
How does it work?
- You sign in by filling out the simple form.
- We give you the skills, the basic rules of audio description. You can either come to one workshop (an afternoon/evening), or if you can not or don’t feel like it, you can watch an online version of it and read the guidelines.
- You commit to doing a few descriptions, for example, 3 within 3 months.
- You go out there and describe!
- You send it to us. You can sign your descriptions with your name (or your team:)) But you don’t have to.
- We check it, smooth it out and upload it to the shared folder. This will soon become a website cataloguing České Budějovice. From citizens to citizens. With love:)
