DANCE FOR MY CITY: A call for dancers, dance companies, and movement enthusiasts from Budweis

Do you dance?

Do you lead a dance group?

Do you teach children, adults, or yourself?

Let's show everyone how much energy our city has.

In the Dance for My City project, we will meet in one place and transform the Máj housing estate into a lively dance scene.

What is Dance for My City?

A joint dance gathering of amateurs and professionals, groups and individuals who are active in České Budějovice.

The project connects the local dance community, gives it a chance to shine in front of the public, and creates a powerful moment of sharing between performers and spectators.

The event is part of the České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028 program and follows on from the successful projects Ode for My City and Image for My City, which involved thousands of people.

“We want to show who makes up our city. We know that you are the ones who can create energy that will never be forgotten.”

Why participate?

By participating in the project, you will gain:

  • Experience – dancing in public spaces, among people, with people, and for people

  • New encounters – connecting dance groups and communities across the city

  • Visibility – performing at a major event as part of EHMK 2028

  • Professional guidance – collaboration with a professional dancer

  • Production support – organization, technology, and coordination provided by the ECoC team

  • Meaning – you will be part of a project that connects the city, art, and its residents

  • We are designing the project to be manageable in terms of time and respectful of your capabilities.

Who are we looking for?

  • Dance groups, ensembles, and schools
  • Clubs, circles, sections, and informal groups
  • Amateur and professional organizations
  • Children's dance groups
  • Individuals working with movement and dance

Style and size don't matter. What matters is the desire to get involved and share a common experience.

How will the collaboration work?

  • March 2026 – we will meet in person, get to know each other, and decide on the form of participation.
  • April 2026 – meeting with a professional dancer and creation of a simple joint choreography.
  • May–June 2026 – rehearsals at a reasonable pace.
  • September 11, 2026 – large public performance at the Máj housing estate.

ECoC coordinators and volunteers will guide you through the entire process.
Don't worry – there is a place for everyone in the project.
We will cover the costs of the professional dancer and all other costs associated with the performance.
